We were thrilled when Kellie and Nick asked us to take their engagement portraits and photos in Downtown Charleston; we were even more honored when the couple requested that we shoot their entire wedding day. Kellie and Nick were married outside at Creek Club at I’on in Mount Pleasant, SC, on April 26th, 2013.
Their charming wedding was chock full of DIY elements with many pieces sourced directly from creative designers at ETSY and others by the bride, her mom and her bridesmaids, creating an ultra contemporary, rustic-yet-sophisticated atmosphere. Mason jars were used several times: to hold tea candles which lined the stairway, stuffed with lit string lights and as glasses for lemon cocktails with citrus slices and striped paper straws. Overhead, lanterns hung from tree branches. Sage linens gathered with white lace napkin holders were set on tan table runners and off-white flowers were used in the centerpieces. Crispy sweet potato fries were served in small Chinese “to go” containers and burlap wrapped around the white wedding cake’s fluffy tiers. At the end of the night, friends held sparklers as the couple escaped to their “Just Married”-adorned car. Guests took home bottles of red wine customized with the couple’s engagement photos.
This wedding photo album depicts all of the dancing and kissing that went on, not to mention the happy tears cried throughout the heartfelt toasts. It’s clear and oh-so-sweet how close the bride and bridesmaids’ friendships are, too. Their fun sage green, knee-length dresses are perfectly complemented by the bright colors many of the guests wore. Nick’s dark tan suit was the ideal choice for the wedding’s light color scheme as well. The most stunning facet of the day, though, was the idyllic bride’s absolutely stunning, to-die-for gown. Kellie was simply the vision of perfection, fresh and giddy throughout the entire day and evening.
Their Love Story
Kellie and Nick met on a chilly, snowy afternoon near Burlington, VT. At the time, Kellie was building her career as a television news reporter; Nick was working in his first job for the U.S. Coast Guard. While Kellie traveled around New England to investigate, covering breaking news and telling engaging stories, Nick was patrolling the area’s surrounding international waters in an effort to protect our country. Thanks to a U.S. Coast Guard Mission, their lives overlapped one day, changing their futures forever. When the strangers met on the shores of Lake Champlain, it was love at first sight – Nick saw Kellie in front of the camera and he just knew he had to meet her. On November 12th, 2011, Nick asked Kellie to marry him. Waves crashed as the sun set when he proposed at Kiawah Beach in South Carolina.
Throughout their relationship, Nick was transferred to various U.S. cities for work. The couple moved from Seattle, WA, to Charleston, SC, where they currently live. Today, the newlyweds continue to travel for fun and they spend plenty of time with their two Black Labs. We are so happy that they chose us to be their preferred Charleston wedding photographers.
